Oshkosh–The Oshkosh Recreation Department will celebrate their 100th Anniversary
with an Open House on April 14 from 2-6 PM. Join us at the Recreation Gym, 425
Division Street Oshkosh, for refreshments and entertainment, and learn about our
programs. Free goodie bags will be given to the first 100 children. Plus, you can register
for programs at the Open House.
In April 1916, the Oshkosh Recreation Department was created by the Board of
Education to provide children with activities and sports throughout the summer. Six
playground sites were open all day for six weeks in that inaugural year, and served over
46,000 children, an average of over 1100 per day.
Today, the Oshkosh Recreation Department provides year round activities to both
children and adults. With a wide array of activities offered, nearly every one can find
something to suit their interests. Each spring and summer, the Recreation Department
publishes an Activity Guide filled with things to do. The guide is mailed to 30,000 homes
in the Oshkosh Area School District.
Watch for the Summer Activity guide in your mailbox in early April. Registration for
programs begins Monday April 11 or register at the Open House on Thursday, April 14.
